VOLUNTEER – Make a Difference
As a not-for-profit organization, the YMCA relies heavily on the support of volunteers to help coach sports teams, plan events, raise funds, and handle hundreds of other key responsibilities.

The YMCA understands that you volunteer your time for many reasons but that your primary motivation is to give back in a significant way to your community. As a volunteer, you’ll be working with other caring, committed people who want to make a difference.

Opportunities to Make A Difference include:

  • Coaching a youth or adult sports team
  • Staffing a branch member or community party
  • Raising funds for the Y Partners Campaign
  • Serving on a special event planning committee
  • Participating in a community outreach project
  • Sponsor a youth sports team or banner
  • And so much more…

In 2009, nearly 2,200 volunteers donated time that would have been worth more than $1.1M if they were paid employees. If you're interested in becoming a YMCA volunteer, contact your neighborhood YMCA branch to learn more about opportunities in your community. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application, background screening and Child Abuse Prevention.

Opportunities for Children
YMCA programs nurture lasting relationships between adults and children that will define our society in the years to come by providing a safe, caring, positive environment where young people can test their independence and develop self-esteem and personal values needed to make the right choices.
