What Would Camp be Without Horses?
 For decades, camp and horses have gone hand in hand. At YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow, it is our goal to offer all our guests a memorable and educational equestrian experience not only as it is known in the traditional camping sense, but also in the CFA style full of fun, learning and safety! So come on out, bring your boots and saddle up!
During summer camp at CFA, we offer two different ways to interact with our horses...CFA Saddle Club and our traditional horseback trail rides. In our off-season, we offer trail rides as one of our retreat activities; and we will soon be offering trail rides, play days, and horsemanship clinics to area horse enthusiasts on open weekends. Here at CFA, SAFETY is our #1 priority! So, proper riding attire (ankle-length pants, closed-toe shoes, and provided helmet) is mandatory at all times when participating in any of our equestrian programs.
CFA Saddle Club
With the Summer 2005 success of the CFA Saddle Club, we invite campers with a love of horses to continue the newest tradition at CFA and sign up for a session filled with the fun and excitement of horsemanship and riding!
For campers who want to spend more of their time at camp learning about and playing with our horses, the CFA Saddle Club is the club for them! Each day of camp, Saddle Club members will get to spend a whole activity period JUST WITH the HORSES!! Aside from the traditional trail ride, campers will learn in-depth information about horse health and nutrition, anatomy and confirmation, horse handling, proper riding and rein positions, and there will, of course, be plenty of time for playing horse games such as Around the World, the Egg ‘n’ Spoon Race, Ride-a- Dollar, and Simon Says. Saddle Club members will also have the opportunity to ride through our arena obstacle course and participate in our end of session CFA Horse Show where they will demonstrate their horsemanship skills for their parents. All riders are required to wear long pants that go to their ankles, closed toed shoes that fit securely to their feet, and a provided helmet. Camp Trail Rides
 Since horses are such a traditional part of summer camp, what else could make an adventure at CFA complete, but a trail ride atop one of our faithful mounts? During summer camp, EVERY camper will have the opportunity to go on an hour-long trail ride on some of the most amazing trails in the Texas Hill Country…right here at Camp Flaming Arrow! A horseback trail ride is truly an experience a child NEVER forgets…camp just wouldn't be the same without it. Please note it is our desire to help all children achieve success while at camp and any camper that is not comfortable or familiar with horses enough to just mount up and ride is not forced to ride a horse. Equestrian staff will work with children that are nervous about riding a horse to help them ease into a rewarding experience whether they just learn to pet a horse or actually go on a trail ride. RETREATS
Here at CFA, we also offer our retreat clients the opportunity to incorporate group trail rides into their schedule. Trail rides last approximately 1 hour. Our equestrian staff will also be glad to tailor our horseback riding program to your needs, if in reason. Just call or email us and we will be happy to coordinate rides, horse education programs, or weekend horsemanship activities for you and your group.

 OTHER ACTIVITIES
Due to our commitment to equine education and enjoyment through a variety of avenues, CFA will now offer weekend and off-season equestrian activities to area horse enthusiasts.
