Camp Staff Policies & Information

S.A.D. Rule

S—Sex                      A—Alcohol                D—Drugs

The S.A.D. rule is a very simple compliance we ask you to follow. This is a NO TOLERANCE issue.   Failure to comply or failure to report non-compliance by other staff members is grounds for termination and will be placed in your file.

SEX—any intimate relations with another person(hand holding, hugging, kissing, etc).  If you should find intimate interest in another staff member, please keep this personal and any relations you two shall choose to have, please keep this off camp on your personal time.  Campers don’t miss anything!

ALCOHOL—If we find it in your possession, you will be dismissed —no questions asked.  If you reenter camp under the influence, you will be dismissed.  If you are under 21—it is illegal for you to consume—please do not do it.  We ask that you abstain from drinking while employed as a summer staff.

DRUGS—this includes tobacco products and anything thing that can alter your state of mind—including prescription drugs.  If you are taking prescription drugs—please let your camp director know.  Remember, you signed a consent form for random drug testing and can be called at any time to take the test.  Camp is a smoke free facility.

Socializing with Minors

Please note that is it Texas state law that all persons under age 18 are considered minors. We ask that staff 18 and older do not transport minors without expressed written permission from the minors parent/guardian and when visiting socially, to act in a mature manner, always acting as a positive role model. Additionally, staff are reminded that dating (at any time) or visiting socially when off duty with any CIT, LIT or camper is not allowed while an employee of the YMCA (this applies to all 17 year old staff also).

Staff Time Off

Staff are given daily time off for no less than 1 hour. During this time, staff must remain at camp, but have the option to do laundry, make phone calls, shower, check email or simply rest. Each week (M-F) staff are given a 6 hour block of time off. This will most likely be from 6 pm to midnight, but could change as needed for scheduling purposes. Staff are allowed to leave camp. Additionally, staff will have a 24 hour block of time off between each session allowing them time to go home, rest and recuperate for the next session or simply hang out at camp. All local staff are asked to consider taking staff with them that do not have transportation or live too far away to go home.

Camp Store and Snacks

All campers and staff will have a snack twice a day, which is included in the registration fee (staff snacks are free ). Each afternoon, each person will be given an ice cream and drink and in the evening, a fruit or cookie snack. On the last day of the session, campers may choose their souvenir. Some of the items that will be available include shirts, hats, visors, stuffed animals, water bottles, and more. We will not accept additional money for camp store accounts, but will have the camp store open on Opening and Closing Days to purchase additional items. There will be no refunds if the camper chooses not to take refreshment or souvenir items. Staff members are asked to purchase souvenirs on opening or closing days.

Additionally, there is a soda machine in the breakout room which staff may access during time off only. Staff are not allowed to drink sodas or eat additional snacks in front of campers.
Staff members are not allowed to utilize the camp kitchen or infirmary kitchen to store, prepare or consume food.

Health and Medical Information

Every possible precaution is taken to insure everyone’s health and safety while at Camp. Please be sure to provide us with the name and policy number of your insurance company on the health history form. If you will take medication while at Camp, please consult with your Camp Director and Nurse. Be sure all medication is in its original container with dosage instructions. Staff will not be allowed to keep any type of medication in living quarters. This includes over the counter drugs and vitamins. Basically anything that goes in your body.

In Case of Staff Member Emergency

If the camp physician or other out-of-camp medical treatment is needed, staff will be taken to the Hospital/Clinic. Staff must provide their own medical insurance coverage while working at camp. Your signed and completed Health Form should show your insurance policy and number. This will permit the director to have emergency treatment started if the parent or emergency contact is not available. Any injury incurred while on duty will be filed as workman’s compensation.

Staff members are allowed to bring cell phones with them to camp, however, we ask that you keep it locked in your vehicle or in the staff lounge.
