Weather Updates
We will work to update this page every few hours during business hours- please be patient with us if it is not done often as we are busy playing with your children - be reassured that we do not just sit indoors and have plans for inclement weather. Thanks.
Saturday Pick up - What if it is flooded and Parent's can not drive in to camp? We would just carry on as normal - playing with the kids, feeding them, etc. Our food service provider is aware that this could be and has prepared to feed the camp through the weekend if need be. We will also try to man the phones more often or have a message for parents to listen to.
Sunday Drop Off: How will we know if we can come? Check this site for information. If the crossing is flooded camp start would be delayed until cars can safely pass. It is our goal to carry on with all sessions, rain or shine. So if it flooded Sunday afternoon, we would start Monday Morning with check in. Please watch this site for more information - thanks.
What do we do if it floods while the kids are in camp?
Thursday, 7/26/07 4:00 pm Right now there is plenty of sunshine and no rain this afternoon. (knock on wood). We can even see blue sky. There was some rain this morning, but nothing too significant. Since tonight is the dance, rain would not stop anything for us!
Wednesday, 7/25/07 11:30 am Right now there is plenty of sunshine and no rain today. (knock on wood). We can even see blue sky. Hopefully the rain will stay away, but it was hard to tell by checking the radar.
Tuesday wrap up. The rain stayed away most of the afternoon allowing us play outside the rest of the day.
Tuesday, 7/24/07 1:03 pm So far it is rainy, but not flooded. We did cancel activities around 11 am this morning and held a "Dutch Auction" and lip singing contest. It was TONS of fun with lots of laughter. Everyone is at Siesta right now and we are busy creating our camp magic incase the rain keeps up.
Saturday, 7/21/07 11:00 am So far it is rainy, but not flooded. The bridge is still passable and we are still planning for opening to start on Sunday as normal. We carry on with camp even in the rain. If there is no lightening or thunder, we are allowed to keep playing outside. We do try to limit outside time to avoid colds, etc. Please send ponchos or rain jackets. See above if there is flooding. This will be updated again on Sunday.
What do we do if it floods while the kids are in camp?
For the most part, we carry on with camp. We stay away from all flooding (river, creeks, etc) and have trained the staff not to cross rushing water - it is the same motto as if you are in a car "turn around, don't drown". Since campers are never left alone, the chance of them being trapped on camp somewhere away form staff is extremely slim. On severe weather days or in floods that do not allow us to play outside, we have "rainy day" activities planned that could be large whole camp activities such as pillow case scavenger hunt, talent show, carnival, etc or we might have small group acclivities such as club time, camper choice activities where we would have different stations set up for them to participate in, and if it siesta time, we might have an extended siesta. Should the rain continue for hours on end, we might even show a movie, but that is VERY rare. We have several indoor areas for these types of activities to take place. We are also fortunate to have a large swimming pool, so if the river is not usable due to high waters, we can still swim. So, when it rains at camp, know that we keep on playing hard and to expect lots of wet, muddy laundry on pick up day.
