Active Seniors at the Y



The YMCA of Greater San Antonio offers our active older adults an opportunity to increase their physical activity, enjoy social interaction, and learn healthy lifestyle skills. A variety of programs are offered at each branch, promoting the benefits of health and wellness. 


Active Older Adult Classes

Group exercise classes are designed for the active older adult, those recovering from injury or illness, or those brand new to fitness. Our seniors can choose from a variety of programs designed to increase muscular strength, mobility, and endurance for daily living activities.

SilverSneakers CardioCircuit®

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers Muscle Strengthen®

Have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a ball offered for resistance and chairs are used for seated and/or standing support.
SilverSneakers Silver Splash®: Activate your aqua exercise urge for variety. Lots of fun in shallow water will help improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming is required, and a SS® kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.

Fitness Ball

This class helps increase flexibility, strength and endurance. It also challenges your body to improve alignment and balance to help stabilize the spine.
