Horsemanship for everyone
THIS IS PART OF OUR SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM, NOT IT'S OWN SEPERATE CAMP.
Horseback riding is always a favorite at CFA, and it is the goal of our Equestrian Education program to provide each camper or child with an opportunity to ride a horse if they so choose.
Summer campers can head to the barn with their activity group or cabin for a trail ride through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Texas Hill Country. They may also choose to participate in the CFA Saddle Club, a 75 minute equestrian experience each day of traditional summer camp. Our Saddle Club riders have the opportunity to learn more about western or English horsemanship under the five YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.
During retreats, we first serve the youth participants, then work to get in adult rides— although please understand this is not always possible due to group size and scheduling. During certain parts of the year, our camp herd of horses go out to "winter pasture" as a nice break from their very busy job. Before coming out to a retreat, check with your group leader to find out if you will be riding. Anyone participating in equestrian activities at YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow will need to bring long pants and closed-toe shoes (boots or tennis shoes are best.)
