Wellness Programs & Wellness Center Guidelines

Our YMCA has Wellness Programs for the whole family. Get Started and Keep Going! Most programs you can register for at the Member Services Desk. See you there!

Wellness Orientations

As a membership benefit, we offer wellness equipment orientations with a wellness staff person. Orientations cover flexibility, cardio activity, how to use the strength machines and Wellness Center policies. Members will receive personalized seat adjustments, learn proper form and techniques and will be guided to a healthy weight setting on each machine. Individual information may be kept in the wellness center so it is available to you when you come for your workouts. An orientation is approximately one (1) hour. Please come dressed in appropriate workout attire. Free. Register at the Member Services Desk.

Wellness Orientation - Youth

Youth ages 7 - 12 years may use the cardio equipment and designated Nautilus strength equipment after completing a Youth Wellness Orientation with their parent(s) AND only when actively engaged with a parent. The Youth Wellness Orientation includes introductions to designated cardio equipment and strength machines, stretching techniques, safety guidelines and Wellness Center policies. Youth must wear the RED wrist band during each workout. The wrist band designates them as successfully completing the Youth Wellness Orientation. Before each workout, the wristband must be checked out at the member services desk and returned after the workout. For safety, this age group may NOT use or be in the free weight area. Free. Register with a parent(s) at the Member Services Desk.

Wellness Orientation - Teen

Youth ages 13 - 14 years may use the wellness center cardio equipment and strength equipment after completing a Teen Wellness Orientation. This is a two (2) part orientation that includes direction on how to appropriately use cardio and strength equipment, stretching techniques, safely guidelines and Wellness Center policies. Teens 13 - 14 years must wear the GREEN wrist band during each workout. The wrist band designates them as successfully completing the Teen Wellness Orientation. Before each workout, the wristband must be checked out at the member services desk and returned after the workout. For safety, this age group may NOT use or be in the free weight area. Free. Register at the Member Services Desk.

Youth ages 15 - 17 years may use the wellness center cardio equipment, Nautilus strength equipment and the free weight area after completing a Wellness Orientation. Free. Register at the Member Services Desk

Fit City: The Health Collaborative Program

This program is a joint effort in the San Antonio metro area and is being offered as a member benefit for all the YMCA's of Greater San Antonio. Below are some of the benefits you receive when you register for this free program.

Individual monthly body composition analysis which includes measurements of your weight, percentage of body fat, pounds of body fat, pounds of muscle and pounds of water. Individual results are kept completely confidential.

Log Book to track your physical activity.

Access to helpful health and fitness literature.

Incentives items for tracking your physical activity in your Log Book. Items may include pedometers, jump ropes, radios and lunch bags.

Wellness Center Guidelines

Age Guidelines

6 Years and Under: For their safety and the safety of other members, anyone age 6 and under may NOT be in the Wellness Center. The Child Watch program is available for this age group.

7 - 12 Years: May use cardio equipment and designated strength equipment AFTER completing a Youth Orientation with a parent AND only when actively engaged with a parent AND when wearing the RED wristband indicating they have been certified. For their safely and the safety of other members, this age group is NOT permitted in the Free Weight area.

13 - 14 Years: May use cardio equipment and strength equipment AFTER completing a Teen Orientation AND when wearing the GREEN wristband indicating they have been certified. For their safely and the safety of other members, this age group is NOT permitted in the Free Weight area.

15 - 17 Years: May use all the equipment in the Wellness Center AFTER completing an Orientation.

18 and Over: It is strongly recommended, but not mandatory that all members 18 and over complete a Wellness Center Orientation to become familiar with the equipment, learn proper techniques, become informed bout safety guidelines, learn about the Wellness Center policies and to meet the staff.

 

General Wellness Center Etiquette

Please be responsible for your safely and wear athletic shoes and shirts.

Please be responsible by wiping off equipment with the provided cleaning cloths and disinfectant.

Please be responsible and re-rack free weights after your sets and leave the bars/machine ready for the next person.

Please be caring and let others waiting to do sets on the strength training equipment/free weights work-in when doing multiple sets on one piece.

Please be respectful of others by turning pagers and cell phones to "silent" or "vibrate" mode.

Please be respectful of others by abstaining from profanity and abusive language.

Please be responsible any only bring water in sealable containers/water bottles into the Wellness Center. No other food or drink are permitted.

Cardio Procedures

Recognize the 30 minute time limit on all cardio equipment when there are others waiting, especially at peak times. Please be respectful of others.

A member may reserve a cardio machine in use by pulling the reservation card/tag located on the front of the machine. Please be honest.

Strength Machines and Free Weight Area

Please be responsible and re-rack free weights after your sets and leave the bars/machine ready for the next person.

Please be caring and let others waiting to do sets on the strength training equipment/free weights work-in when doing multiple sets on one piece.

TV Usage

You may request for a wellness staff to change the TV channel to watch your favorite TV show. Please keep in mind the YMCA is a Christian organization serving families, therefore some TV program may not be suitable for viewing.

Cell Phone Usage

We ask that cell phones be kept on "silent" or "vibrate" while in the wellness area. Please be respectful to others by not talking on your cell phones while working out. Also note that cell phones are NOT permitted in the locker rooms, due to photo capabilities.

Cleaning of Equipment

Cleaning cloths and spray disinfectant are provided to wipe down the equipment you have used to leave the piece ready for the next person to use.

Towels

Please bring your own towel with you for your workout or shower. The YMCA does not provide towel service.
