Summer Camp Overview
YTeens Summer Day Camp provides an excellent place for teens to learn and grow with a variety of activities such as arts, dance, indoor/outdoor activities, team building with self-esteem activities, field trips, plus more. The overall theme of the summer is “The Adventure is Mine” with ten weekly sub-themes flowing into it. Each week the teens will take a field trip geared at providing a challenging yet fun activity. During the different themed weeks, we will also bring in guest speakers to include a comic book artist, wellness coaches, science professors, media specialists, nutrition experts and a host of others.
Weekly themes include the following:
June Themes: Survivor; H2O Here We Go; The Great Outdoors
July Themes: Out of this World; Super Hero Week; Sports of All Sorts; Red Carpet
August Themes: Mad Science; Global Games; Western Week
Staffing
Staff receives CPR and 1st aid certification as well as 15 hours of teen based training to include Child Abuse Prevention, Classroom Management, Principles of Youth Work, Policies and Procedures, and Daily Operations. Since the camp is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services, we will maintain the ratio of 1:10.
Registration
Registration begins April 8th and will continue throughout summer. There needs to be a minimum of 20 teens enrolled by 06/02/08 for us to host camp. If we do not reach this number, the Teen Department will call parents of those registered and inform them of camp closure. The maximum number of teens we can have enrolled for one week is 80. We can only guarantee a spot if the week is paid.
Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance is available through Open Doors.

Miscellaneous Information
Breakfast, snack and lunch are to be provided by the participant. We do not have access to a refrigerator or microwave. On some field trips, the teens will have the opportunity to buy their lunch. When this happens we will notify the parents on the weekly schedule.
Teens should come appropriately dressed to camp. This includes closed toe shoes (no flip flops), modest clothing, and hats/visors as needed. We encourage the teens to bring their own sun block and water bottles.
There will be a small portion of the day dedicated to free time and during this time electronics can be used. Parents will need to sign an electronic waiver that releases the YMCA from responsibility due to damage, theft, or loss. These will be issued on the Teen‘s first day of camp.
We look forward to having a fun summer. For additional information, staff and parents can contact the Westside YMCA Teen Department at (210)433-6391 or moniquep@ymcasatx.org.
