YPartners 2010 Campaign
From its beginnings in 1876, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio has been committed to opening its doors to everyone, regardless of income or life circumstances. This is one of our core values and a reason we have had such a profound impact on generations of kids and families. Throughout our history, we have consistently helped families grow in spirit, mind, and body.
Paul tells us that God loves a cheerful giver. Through the YPartners, you have the opportunity to JOYFULLY SERVE those in need in Greater San Antonio and surrounding counties. Everything you give to the YPartners directly translates into YMCA programming, membership and services for those who can’t otherwise afford it. This means helping parents give their children a safe place to go after school, sending a kid to camp, or building character values though YGuides and Youth Sports.
Last year, we raised nearly $1.1 million dollars. As a result, 4,200 families or nearly 14,500 individuals received scholarships for YMCA programming and membership—think of the difference that made! But the need is greater than ever.
This year, we set a goal of $1,085,000. I am confident that with your help, we will make this goal and beat last year’s total. So in making your gift, think of the blessings in your life and how great it is share with those less fortunate. Through your gift, you will INSPIRE, GIVE HOPE, AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the lives of others in San Antonio. On behalf of thousands of kids, families and our larger community who directly benefit from your support and campaign efforts, thank you for your dedication!

Maggie’s story
Last year while my son was deployed I became a full-time Grandma to my special needs, 4 year old grandson. The YMCA invited us to join as part of their supporting the troops and those left at the home front program. Our little guy has a mild to moderate form of Cerebral Palsy and at the time we joined YMCA he used a walker and was only able to walk a couple of steps unassisted. The YMCA pool quickly became an integral part of his Physical Therapy. He started out using the wading pool section first using both of my hands, then 2 hands on a kick board, then one hand on a kick board, then it was look Grandma, "NO HANDS". By summertime he could play with all the other kids in the pool. Then Coach Chris and Coach Jenni started their magic and he quickly learned to swim underwater, float like a star fish, jump into the pool (this from a kid who still can't jump in the air) and swim several feet. We are happy to say our little guy; gave away his walker over 8 months ago, walks everywhere without assistance and even has his own unique way of running. We can never thank the YMCA enough for their generous support in our membership, their total acceptance of a special needs child and giving our grandson a place to learn, play and become physically capable so he can play independently with his peers.
